The best party universities and the most affordable nightlife

Uni of Birmingham

The chart-topper this year for best nightlife all around has been University of Birmingham. On the more affordable side, its music caters to all tastes, and their beloved Snobs never fails to deliver some cheesy pop tunes. With Mama Roux, the Digbeth area is a student favourite, with lots of bars located in converted warehouses and factories, and its artsy vibe.  Walkabout on Broad Street is a classis for pres, with great student deals.

University of Leeds

Leeds has loads of live music venues, and is known for its Djing and DnB scene.

Lots of live music venues, a great DJing and DnB scene. The HiFi club is legendary, and offers comedy nights as well, and the Warehouse is about as cool as you can get when it comes to industrial style venues. Many of the bars can be found in the student area Headingley, which has a 24h McDonalds for your post-club munchies.

University of Glasgow

The main areas of the Glasgow student nighgtlife scene are Byres Road and Great Western Road, with bars like Dukes, The Belle, and Sparkle Horse, whose indie music and fairy lights are staples of the city’s vibe. Oh, and the Belle also has a fireplace, to keep warm with your pint in those cold Scottish nights. With an iconic choice of nightclubs, such as Subclub, the longest running dance club in the world, and Firewater Thursdays, a student classic, plus pres at Big Slope with 5£ Margharitas, it’s an affordable night out. SWG3 is the main gig venue, where you can also find club nights and art exhibitions.

Newcastle University

Ranked one of the cheapest, you can have one of those nights out that feel like 9 lives without breaking the bank. It also ranks best partying ethic, due to its high level of diversity. The social club and Howlers are student faves, as well as Cosy Joe’s for karaoke. NX’s independent live music events, and Wonderbar’s quiz and bingo nights are a few of the hundreds of very different nocturnal activities Newcastle has to offer.

Aberystwyth University

Known for having a ‘pub for every week of the year’, Aberystwyth may be a small town, but does not disappoint in nightlife, ranking high in many guides. The Libertine Cocktail Bar and Downey Vaults are two of the cheapest, most lively student pubs. All the venues are walking distance, and for a boogie, most would head to Pier Pressure or Harley’s.

Uni of Liverpool

Baltic Triangle is the area to be, with murals on every corner and venues such as Hangar 34 and 24 Kitchen Street for exciting DJ sets. For some corny Monday night jams, head to The Raz, and have a few of their Fat Frog drinks while you’re at it. Just like other student cities, Liverpool has its own indie Thursday night, which is the Sh*t Indie Disco at Elektrik Warehouse, also dirt cheap. Most bars are walking distance, and Liverpool boasts over 200, so you’re well covered for every taste.
