Cardiff University

Cardiff University was founded in 1883, and is the only Welsh Russel Group University. It was not until 2005, that Cardiff University became the university’s legal name and the university awarded its degrees independently of the University of Wales. Cardiff University is the third-oldest University in Wales and is made up of two campuses, both within Cardiff, home to over 30,000 students.

The University has 15 student halls, as well as student houses within the city of Cardiff. Students' Union

Cardiff University Students’ Union is a student-run body that represents the student community and the student voice and run by 7 full time student officers. The Students Union runs over 260 societies supporting the interest of the Cardiff university student body. The Students’ Union building is located neat Cathays Park and includes a variety of shops, a nightclub as well as the studios for the student radio.

Famous for

Cardiff University has two Nobel Laureates within its staff team, Sir Martin Evans, who was awarded the Nobel prize for Medicine and Robert Huber who was awarded the Nobel prize for Chemistry.

News

A study conducted by researchers at Cardiff University’s School of Medicine and Centre for Trails Research has been awarded research paper of the year. The research found that a finger prick blood test could help prevent unnecessary prescriptions of antibiotics in individuals with COPD. Although the study was led by Cardiff University, it took place in collaboration with the University of Oxford and King’s College London.
